Cuala Foundation

CUALA FOUNDATION is a 501(c)3 organization that was founded on the Lower East Side in 2017 with a sister organization in Ireland.

We celebrate culture to empower communities and build belonging.

We produce projects, programs and events that heal trauma by connecting people more deeply with ourselves, each other and the place where we live .

We develop opportunities for local youth in their own communities through programs in film, street art and music. Participants learn about people who lived here before them and how they helped positively shape the neighborhood. The participants are encouraged to create their own projects that contribute to community revitalization.

We are thrilled to partner with Amerinda (American Indian Artists, Inc.) to reclaim spaces for for community cultural hubs.

Since July 2021 when they fled Afghanistan, we have supported the resettlement of the Afghan Dreamers (the original members of the Afghan Girls Robotics Team) and 55 other Afghan refugees, in Ireland and Los Angeles, respectively.

We recently completed a Community Folklore Project in inner-city Dublin and The Booley Project, a cultural project with refugees and asylum-seekers living in the direct provision system to connect them more deeply with Irish culture and communities.
