Dingle International Film Festival 2018

Dingle International Film Festival is couched within the breathtaking town of Dingle on the beautiful Dingle Peninsula, southwest Ireland and is part of The Wild Atlantic Way. The festival takes places annually in March. Dingle is home to many film makers, one of Ireland’s only independent cinemas, is a known film location (Ryan’s Daughter, Far and Away and Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and a major tourist destination making it the perfect home for our festival.

Dingle IFF offers feature screenings from Ireland and around the globe, covering all genres; it is home to the Gregory Peck Award: For Excellence in the Art of Film, (recipients including Gabriel Byrne, Jim Sheridan, Jean Jacques Beineix, Stephen Frears, Laura Dern and The Peck Family); it is the first Irish festival to embrace the field of Animation and in 2015 held Ireland’s first ever Animation Awards ceremony in association with Animation Ireland; it is home to the Murakami Award for animation, (recipients including Jimmy T. Murakami, Richie Baneham, Tomm Moore and Don Bluth & Gary Goldman); it has a full and inclusive Animation Programme of events as part of Animation Dingle; and, housed within this Gaeltacht area, Dingle IFF is proud to promote the Irish language and is the only festival offering an award for Irish Script writing with its Físín event.

Dingle IFF actively promotes and platforms Irish film, Irish filmmakers and Irish animation, whilst also playing host to major industry players both from Ireland and abroad. Dingle IFF is an established date on the film festival circuit and is now actively promoting Irish film and animation products in the world market, including an invited curated programme at the 31st Santa Barbara International Film Festival and annually at Toronto Irish Film Festival.

Guests to the festival have included: Maureen O Hara, Cillian Murphy, Aidan Gillen, Jack Reynor, Scott Wilson; 2-time Oscar nominated director Sir Alan Parker, inventor of the Stedicam Garrett Brown, 2-time Oscar winner and sound artist Tom Johnson, 2-time Oscar winner Barbara Kopple, producer Ned Dowd, director Ben Wheatley, IFTA winner Pat Shortt and Oscar nominated actresses Sarah Miles and Saoirse Ronan.
