GO GREEN EX in partnership with NEAR Health, NUI Galway and DIT.


GO GREEN EX at UL in partnership with the NUI Galway NEAR Health research group (Nature and Environment to Attain and Restore health project (@NEARhealth_NUIG) and Dublin Institute of Technology with hosts Clarisford Park, Killaloe, Co. Clare.

GO GREEN EX is an acronym for Going Outdoors: Gathering Evidence for Emotion-Nature and EXercise. We are an international research consortium based at the Health Research Institute, University of Limerick and led by staff at the Dept. of Physical Education and Sport Sciences. GO GREEN EX have experience working together with national organizations (e.g. Mental Health Ireland) in addition to more than 13 commercial and academic partners. The natural laboratory that is Clarisford Park, Killaloe, Co. Clare and the 133 hectare green campus at UL will provide enable an evidence-based blueprint for Healthy Campuses and Health communities to be developed.

NEAR Health project, funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Health Service Executive under Grant Award No. 2015-HW-MS-2, supports the implementation of the EPA Strategic Plan 2016-2020 – ‘Our Environment, Our wellbeing’ and Healthy Ireland, the national framework for action to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Ireland. The team comprises medical and marketing professionals, social scientists, innovators, environmental scientists and ecologists.
