Horror Expo Ireland 2016

"Uniting Hearts and Minds in Horror"

Sunday 30th of October

Freemasons Grand Lodge, Dublin 2

Crazy about horror and looking for something a little different? Well Horror Expo Ireland is ready to deliver a one of a kind event which promises to please even the most ardent horror fan. Taking place on Halloween Eve, the impressive surroundings of the Freemasons Grand Lodge will host a full day dedicated to the world of horror as hearts and minds unite in a love of all that is dark and macabre.

Running from 2pm to 2am Horror Expo Ireland promises an unforgettable and unique experience, which boasts a plethora of horror related events and activities ranging from panels, Q&A sessions, screenings, and paranormal investigations. While it is fair to say that this event is not your average convention, the organisers have provided a public platform which is entirely fan focused, as the audience is afforded an opportunity to critically engage with the genre of horror from a range perspectives alongside some of the industry’s most acknowledged experts.

Building upon an already established culture in Ireland of fan conventions, The Horror Expo is situated at an intersection between conventions and traditional academic conferences which offers the public a chance to experience, explore and examine as academic, fanatic and professional comes together to exchange ideas and celebrate their love of all things horror.

Opening the day’s proceedings, Professor Darryl Jones, Dean of Arts in Trinity College, whose work on the horror genre is some of the most well received academic literature within its field, will introduce a series of panels which seek to explore a range of horror related subjects. Comprising of four panels, these chaired discussion will consist of academics and industry professionals such as winner of three World Fantasy Awards, three International Horror Guild Awards, five Bram Stoker Awards, twenty-one British Fantasy Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Horror Writers Association Stephen Jones, BAFTA-winning creator of the notorious BBC TV "Halloween hoax" Ghostwatch Stephen Volk, Hater and Autumn author David Moody, alongside some of our own home grown talent in the form of Stitches director Conor McMahon, Méliès d’Argent award winning director of Let Us Prey Brain O Malley and the most noted comic book writer Maura McHugh, to name but a few.

Closing the panels, there will be an extra special Q&A session with the Paranormal Researchers Ireland who along with their team of technicians, demonologists and investigators will be discussing their experiences with the paranormal encounters throughout their investigations.

Next on the programme, after a short break for refreshments Horror Expo Ireland proudly welcomes Fantastic Films, an OSCAR™ winning film production company based in Dublin, who will be introducing a never before seen Irish premier ahead of its screening for all Horror Expo Ireland ticket holders.

Finally, as an extra special treat to herald in Halloween, there will be candle lit midnight screening of Robert Wiene's 1920 expressionist horror The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari  set to a live musical accompaniment by musical collective Unshaped Form who have been developing  a unique score especially for Horror Expo Ireland. A true treat for the senses and a not to be missed event!

While the panels and screening in the Grand Lodge Room are taking place, there will also be a screening room in the Prince Mason Room for short films where the public can drop in and spend some time running from 4pm to 11pm.

Additionally we also are working in conjunction with Gallery X who specialise in horror and dark erotica and on the day the Grand Lodge will be displaying some of the gallery’s most prestigious international artists.

So as the dusk descends on Halloween Eve, and the spirts of Halloween begin to rise The Freemason’s Grand Lodge is the only place for the horror enthusiast, as hearts and minds unite in darkness.
