Shannon System Flood Alliance

The Shannon System Flood Alliance (SSFA) exists to represent communities and individuals that flood or are at risk of flooding in the Shannon Basin.  SSFA engages with local Shannon groups, the OPW, Local Authorities and with International parties in a quest to reduce flood events that threaten homes and businesses along the Shannon

The SSFA are affiliated to the The Irish National Flood Forum who acts as a conduit between the organisations involved in flooding, Insurance industry, HSE, Local Authorities, and the OPW, and the local community.

The SSFA believe that flooding is a natural event primarily.  Flooding is a complex situation to manage, adds significant dangers to rural life, disrupts commerce and unlikely to be contained with the ongoing imopact of climate change.  SSFA want the Shannon communities to engage positivly with the various state bodies to ensure flood relief solutions are dynamic and effective in mitigating against the damages of urban and rural flooding events.
