Background
At the request of the County Kerry Interagency Traveller Strategy Committee (KITS) Kerry Education and Training Board (formerly Kerry Education Service) established an inter-agency working group in September 2011 to address education inclusion, in particular the inclusion of Travellers in education in Kerry.
Membership of Interagency Committee
• Kerry Education and Training Board,• Kerry Travellers Health and Community Development Project, • Institute of Technology Tralee, • South Kerry Development Partnership,• North East and West Kerry Development,• Kerry Diocese Youth Service, • Education Welfare Service, • Ballyspillane FRC,• School Completion Programmes (LINK and South Kerry),• Home School Community Liaison Teachers.
Purpose of Interagency Committee
1. To develop a coherent interagency approach to address education inclusion. 2. To support the transfer of Travellers from primary to post primary schools in Kerry.3. To support the retention and progression of Travellers in education. 4. To provide support and information to parents on education access, participation and progression.
The working group meets 4 times per year and is chaired by Kerry ETB.
