Join us for a special screening of ‘An Gorta Mor: Passage to India’. This landmark documentary traces Irish emigration to India during the 19th century, particularly in the aftermath of the Great Irish Famine, and uncovers the histories of Irish emigrant families, like the Footmans of Cork, who can trace their ancestry back to these pivotal events. Highlights:<ul><li>Explore the historical context and personal stories of Irish emigrants, exiles and colonial officials who shaped the histories of India during this turbulent time for both countries. </li><li>Understand their impact on events like the Great Hunger, and the formation od the lesser-known Irish diaspora community in India. </li><li>Enjoy a Q&amp;A with the documentary director Dr Ian Michael, who is himself a member of the Irish diaspora in India. </li></ul> Speaker Profile:Dr. Ian Michel is Professor of Marketing at Zayed University, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Ian is the co-producer and story narrator of ‘An Gorta Mor: Passage to India’ an award-winning documentary that traces his ancestor’s (great-great-great grandfather) John Footman’s journey to India at the peak of the Great Famine. Ian’s research that went into the story and subsequently the creation of the documentary has been shortlisted for “Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences", award given by the prestigious Times Higher Education Awards, THE Awards Arab World 2024.
