New Irish Communities Creative Writing Workshop (Online)

Founded in 1991, theIrish Writers Centre's mission is tosupport and promote writers at all stages of their developmentby offering a diverse programme ofwriting courses and workshopsled by established writers across a range of genres includingmemoir, poetry, playwriting, short-stories and the novel. The Centre runsseminars, lectures and readingsrelated to the art of writing and welcomes writers, readers and international visitors.

Join writer Rafael Mendes for two hours of creative writing exercises in a supportive workshop environment

All attendees will be emailed the Zoom details a few days before the event.</h4> The Irish Writers Centre is excited to announce the 2025 New Irish Communities, a series of six creative writing sessions for non-native speakers to explore creative writing in English, taking place on Saturday mornings between 11am-1pm.Join writer Rafael Mendes for two hours of creative writing exercises in a supportive workshop environment. These sessions are ideal for beginner and emerging writers.New Irish Communities was established in 2013 by the Irish Writers Centre and is supported by Dublin City Council. <h2>How does New Irish Communities work?</h2>Each stand alone session lasts two hours and will consist of the following:<ul><li>Creative writing exercises</li><li>Close readings</li><li>Group discussion</li><li>Critique and feedback of work</li><li>Recommended reading</li></ul>Please note, it is not necessary to have attended any previous New Irish Communities sessions to join in, but it is necessary to sign up. Rafael Mendes is a Brazilian-Irish migrant whose work has recently appeared or is upcoming in Poetry Ireland Review, Banshee, and Poetry Salzburg Review. He's a co-winner of the Ireland Chair of Poetry Pamphlet Series 2025.
