POETRY EVENING.  Frederick Douglass: Past, Present and Future. Readings by Irish & U.S. poets, featuring special guest Roger Guenveur Smith

For this special poetry event as part of #Douglassweek, a number of award-winning poets from the U.S and Ireland will gather to read work inspired by and related to Frederick Douglass and his time in Ireland. The winning entry to our Douglass In Ireland Poetry Competition will be announced, and the winner will join us in conversation.The event will also feature a very special guest, the multi-award-winning and internationally renowned actor, director, and writer, Roger Guenveur Smith, known for his collaborations with Spike Lee, and most recently for his portrayal of Booker T. Washington on the Netflix miniseries Self Made. Roger will read the winning entry of our poetry competition, and engage in a Q&amp;A on Douglass and poetry.The event will be hosted by Dr Catherine Gander (Maynooth University).
