Event Subject to LicenceThe Hamilton Walk from Dunsink Observatory to Broombridge on the Royal Canal in Dublin takes place on October 16 each year. This is the anniversary of the day in 1843 when famous mathematician (and former Director of Dunsink) William Rowan Hamilton discovered the strange new four-dimensional number system known as quaternions, while walking with his wife along the banks of the Royal Canal.Join us at 13:00 for a celebration of that eventful day, starting at Dunsink Observatory and following Hamilton's route to Broombridge. The event is jointly organised by Maynooth University and DIAS.-----Attendee InformationVisit <a href="https://www.dunsink.dias.ie/gettinghere" title="https://www.dunsink.dias.ie/gettinghere" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">dunsink.dias.ie/gettinghere </a>for information on how to get to Dunsink. There will be parking available on the Observatory grounds, accessed through our main gate on Dunsink Lane. Please note that the main gate will shut at 15:00 sharp so ensure that you allow sufficient time to return to your car after the walk. Those arriving via public transportation and walking through Ashtown may find the gate at Dunsinea Lane more convenient (no parking here), which will be opened by staff at 12:45.The route includes walking across a grassy field so please wear suitable shoes taking into account weather conditions on the day.
