Join us for an lunchtime talk  with Cliona Harmey exploring the connections between lighthouses, radios, and AIS technology.

In 2015 Dublin Port Company supported artist Cliona Harmey to present Dublin Ships, an innovative art project curated by Ruairí Ó Cuív as part of the Dublin City Councils' Interaction and the City programme.In this talk Cliona Harmey will talk about the Dublin Ships project and will show a number of other examples from her earlier work to talk about the way in which maritime space has been shaped by a range of innovations in communication technologies such as the lighthouse, the signal lamp, and radio which now sit alongside modern live tracking technologies such as AIS (automatic identification system) which was used in the creation of Dublin Ships. Dublin Ships was also accompanied by an engagement programme with 4 local primary schools.About: Cliona Harmey is an artist who works primarily with media technologies, exploring socio-technical systems and using material exploration and practice to try to understand /reveal their logics. Her work is often inspired by historical narratives and historically resonant infrastructural spaces such as ports, coasts, borders and their hinterlands. She works at a variety of scales from large scale public art using live shipping data (Dublin Ships) to smaller works for gallery/publication and off-site exhibition/event
