Women In Research Ireland is a group for women and other under-represented groups in research and academia in Ireland.We aim to organise events that are accessible and inclusive:We will provide physical access information about the venue on the event registration page. Join Women in Research Ireland for a lunchtime discussion to learn about Direct Provision.

Direct Provision is system of asylum seeker accommodation in the Republic of Ireland created in 1999. We will be joined by two panelists, Rosemary Kunene and Donnah Vuma, to discuss their experiences with Direct Provision and access to education, employment and its effects on mental health. Notably, there is a lack of focus on children&#x27;s education in the direct provision system. This event ensures that the unheard voices of direct provision are represented. Following the conversation, we will take questions from attendees. She has been involved in a number of social integration initiatives since the year 2015. She is passionate about community empowerment for the marginalised groups of people in particular refugees and international protection applicants. She tirelessly fights for the end of the direct provision system and the rights of people seeking international protection. She is a member of MASI (Movement of Asylum Seekers in Ireland, <a href="https://www.masi.ie/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://www.masi.ie/</a>) and founder of Every child is your child (<a href="https://everychildireland.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">https://everychildireland.org/</a>) a community group that works towards supporting children living in direct provision with school essentials. Donnah has 6 years lived experience with her 3 children in the direct provision system and has been waiting for a decision on her international protection application for 7 years. She is currently undertaking a BA joint honours in Politics and international relations with sociology at the University of Limerick. Live captioning will be available.
