About this event
As part of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence join
Juliette Gash, RTÉ foreign news reporter in conversation with
Jane Meriwas, Executive Director of the Samburu Women’s Trust
Juliette and Jane’s connection began with Umoja Women’s Village in Samburu County in Kenya – a vibrant community of 36 women, most of whom have fled violence at the hands of their husbands.
As the world marks 16 days of activism to end violence against women and girls, join us to explore how the climate crisis isn’t just driving hunger in the Horn of Africa but also conflict and violence – all of which impacts women and girls most.
Jane is an indigenous woman, mother, feminist and human rights defender. She has worked as a community development practitioner for more than 20 years, advancing the rights of women and girls among indigenous communities in Kenya and beyond.
Juliette Gash is a foreign news reporter with RTÉ. In August 2022, she visited Umoja Women’s Village, Samburu County, Kenya while highlighting the devastating hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa as a result of ongoing drought.
