Florencia Caiazza—Mismatch

Pallas Projects/Studios is a publicly funded, not-for-profit initiative run by artists Mark Cullen & Gavin Murphy, operating artists’ studios and a project space in Dublin’s city centre. Pallas Projects/Studios collaborates with peers to engage and develop current Irish contemporary art, through a commitment to solo projects by Irish and international artists, alongside occasional thematic group exhibitions, and exchanges with artists’ groups around Ireland and abroad.

Exhibition continues: Friday 16th July – Saturday 31st JulyGallery open: 12–6pm, Thursday–Saturday____Pallas Projects are pleased to present Mismatch by Florencia Caiazza, the 5th exhibition in the Artist-Initiated Projects 2020/21 programme.Florencia Caiazza’s work acts as a reaction to a space or a time (an exhibition space, a new studio, city, a season, a specific weather). Finding the right medium is the starting point to develop a dialogue/reaction.

Her exploration of materials often focuses on repetition, a patient accumulation of gestures and actions that become a sculptural volume.

Recently she has been exploring with knitting, conceiving it as a practise of reflection about time itself, that demands a deceleration of the time of urban life and digitized humanities.

“I always found fascinating how Florencia Caiazza´s work developed in a time-dimension outside the urban rhythm. Her moves are naturally secretive and self-assuring while inhabiting the state of uncertainty, not knowing where the work will take her. Decelerated perception is natural for her, and from this point of view, she observes minimal, almost invisible, changes. From this point on, she invents a recipe with the materials that are put in front of her, observing and responding to their demands. (...)&quot; — Renata Zas

Biography

Florencia Caiazza lives and works between Buenos Aires/ Dublin. Studied Visual Arts at Regina Pacis Art School (Buenos Aires), and was part of the Program for Artists at Torcuato Di Tella University, (Buenos Aires). Artist-Initiated Projects at Pallas Projects/Studios is an open-submission, annual gallery programme of exhibitions taking place in the context of a gallery space with a dedicated tradition towards the professional development of artists in a peer-led, supportive environment. This unique programme of funded, artist-initiated projects selected via open call is highly accessible to artists, with a focus on early career, emerging artists and recent graduates. Projects are supplemented with artists&#x27; talks, texts, workshops or performances, online events and gallery visits by colleges and local schools.
