Ballybough &amp; North Strand Festival of history part of Dublin Festival of HistorySponsored by Dublin City Council &amp; NEIC Maria will give examples of the devastating impact of the famine on the people of Dublin City, many of whom were already living in poverty and struggling to survive before the arrival of famine immigrants to the city. Her talk will include the story of the 1,490 people who walked 165 km along the Royal Canal from Strokestown to the Dublin Docklands in 1847 . Maria will share research that sheds light on the experiences of immigrants after leaving Ireland —a haunting journey marked by both hardship, hope and new beginnings.Maria Ball is a local historian from Cabra and has completed a degree in local history in Maynooth College. Maria will to a talk on The Great Famine
