Sport photographer James Crombie discusses his wildlife photography which led to the publication of his book Murmurations in 2024.

James Crombie is a world-renowned photographer from Westmeath, Ireland. He has been working with Inpho Sports Photography in Dublin for the past 19 years, capturing some of the most iconic sporting moments on the global stage. In March 2025, he was awarded the Irish Press Photographer of the Year for the third time, having previously won the accolade in 2021 and 2022. Alongside his passion for sports photography, James has also become acclaimed for his wildlife and nature work, particularly his documentation of the breathtaking starling murmurations over Lough Ennell. This passion project, pursued over four winters, culminated in the 2024 publication of his first book, Murmurations. In this talk, James will talk about the book he didn't plan to write as well as being featured on Netflix, CNN and in National Geographic. He will also pay tribute to Manchán Magan.
