Saturday, April 11  •  2 PM - 3 PM
Overview

Dr. Aoife Bhreatnach writes and presents the Censored podcast, which explores the censorship culture of twentieth-century Ireland.

In each episode, Aoife tells the story of a banned book, rating the ‘filth’ with censorship bingo. The censor’s blacklist included all kinds of publications, from literary classics to pulp fiction and memoir. The podcast also examines how social censure affected playwrights, visual artists, and television producers in notorious incidents such as the Playboy Riots and the Bishop and Nightie. Aoife will discuss Censored with Dr. Morgan Wait, a social historian of Ireland in the 20th century with a particular interest in media history.
