Copper Sulphate Aluminium Etching Workshop with Clare Henderson
A two-day workshop at Interface, introducing aluminium etching with copper sulphate with Clare Henderson
In this workshop participants, guided by Clare, will draw inspiration from the Interface surroundings, learn plate preparation, image transfer, etching, and printing techniques, and leave with multiple prints and their plates to continue printing at home.
Day 1 – May 8th, 10am–4pm
Class begins with an introduction by Clare Henderson followed by a printmaking demonstration of aluminium etching with copper sulphate.
Participants will create drawings inspired by the Interface environment, with guidance from Clare. They will then prepare their plates, transfer drawings and work into the grounded plates.
Day 2 – May 9th, 10am–4pm
Participants will etch their prepared plates and learn how to clean and ready them for printing. Clare will then guide the group through various printmaking techniques, enabling each person to produce a series of finished prints from their plates.
What to Bring
Participants are advised to wear comfortable clothes that they don't mind getting dirty, bring a packed lunch, snacks and drinking water. Tea and coffee will be provided. All materials will be provided.
About the artist
Clare Henderson is a master printer with twenty years experience in teaching intaglio printing and etching. She has been a member of Graphic Studio Dublin since 2005 and as such has gained experience in all intaglio printmaking techniques. Clare editioned prints and taught etching for Graphic Studio Dublin from 2006 until 2020 and is now based in Connemara where she works on her own practice, assists artists, teaches workshops and courses in printmaking and coordinates the visual arts for the Clifden Arts Festival. She follows an intuitive teaching approach where she takes the lead from each individual student on where they are with their practice and ability while guiding them through the necessary steps involved in making a print. This means all levels can be taught well in the one group.
