Communities of Professional Practice Understanding Big Behaviours

Communities of Professional Practice Understanding Big Behaviours

Overview

Understanding Big Behaviours

A Communities of Professional Practice helps to embed quality practice in your service, by sharing learning and connecting with others.

This practical, evidence-based workshop draws on 30 years of experience, play therapy insights, and the latest neuroscience research to help staff understand why children behave the way they do and respond in ways that truly support their emotional and social development.

Participants will gain:

  • Deep understanding of behaviour as communication – why children act out and what their behaviour is really telling us.
  • Brain-based insights – how children’s brains process emotions and stress, and how this impacts behaviour.
  • Play therapy strategies – practical, hands-on approaches that calm, engage, and teach children without conflict.
  • Effective language and connection tools – how staff can respond calmly, confidently, and consistently.
  • Staff wellbeing and resilience techniques – ensuring your team can maintain a positive, nurturing environment even in challenging moments.

The workshop is interactive and highly practical, with real-life scenarios, role play, and strategies staff can use immediately in their setting. Delivered by Melissa Moore, Accredited Play & Creative Arts Therapist from My Space Play Therapy.
