Its main purpose is to give young musicians an early opportunity to perform for a live audience in a convivial, intimate setting. DPS recitals mainly take place in the private homes of its members, though over the past number of years the Society has collaborated in presenting an annual concert in one of the OPW’smagnificent historic properties. Since 2009, the DPS has combined with the Royal Irish Academy of Music to provide a prize for the winner of the Academy’s annual Junior Solo Competition. The finals are now held in RIAM’s spectacular new Whyte Recital Hall. This young musician gives a recital at one of the DPS’ General Assemblies, where the prize, in memory of Vincent O Neill, is presented.
