Question 1

What is The Dublin Story Slam?

We are a competitive open mic storytelling night where we invite up to 8 members of the audience  onstage to share a true personal story, 4-7minutes long and inspired by a different theme each night. At the end of each story, Judges in the audience choose a winner, our Story Slam Champion.

Question 2

Can I reserve a seat in advance?

Accepted Answer

There is no assigned seating at this event and seating is based on a first come first served basis. There is a combination of seating on couches, stools, high seats and chairs but it is not possible to reserve particular seating on the night.

Question 3

Do you have to tell a story if you go?

Accepted Answer

No! Come, listen & enjoy.  You can also write an anonymous story in response to a story prompt  on one of our audience slips, eg tell us about a first time, you won't forget! Our hosts will read out a selection of these onstage during the night, so you can still tell a story without getting onstage.

What if I'm on the fence and need help telling a story?

A week before each Slam, we host an online Story Prep session We'll invite you to share a super rough version of your story and then give you feedback, help and support on how to develop it into a story you can deliver. Sign up by emailing us story@thedublinstoryslam.com but spaces are limited.

Question 5

How do I become a pre-sign up storyteller for your next Slam?

Got a story you definitely want to share? Email the first line of your story to story@thedublinstoryslam.com two weeks before the Slam.  We'll then invite you to take part in our Story Prep session and you'll definitely get the chance to share your story on the night. You also get in for free!!

Question 6

Can I sign up to tell a story on the night?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We pick up to 4 names  at random from whoever else signs up on the night. Just grab a ticket & come find us at our sign up table right beside the stage. Fill out a form, get some last minute advice and support if you need it and add your name to the bowl.

Question 7

We wanna get something to eat before the show - Does the Sugar Club do food?

Accepted Answer

They do a yummy pizza delivered to your table so you can chow down on fine food while you enjoy some fine stories!

Question 8

Do you do group bookings?

Accepted Answer

Nope. Groups are welcome and we get a lot of staff nights out, as it's a great way to hang out together and enjoy some brilliant stories. But we don't reserve seats for groups or anything like that. Feel free to email us  - story@thedublinstoryslam.com if you need some more advice.

Can you bring children to this?

Short answer no. This is an over 18's event and the stories deal with adult themes with plenty of swearing, adult humour and topics touched on right throughout the night. Feel free to email us  - story@thedublinstoryslam.com if you need some more advice.

Question 10

What do you meant by a story?

Accepted Answer

Something true that happened to you and told from your point of view. No spoken word, fiction, poetry, singing, props or notes allowed onstage. You might feel like you need them but you don't. Just tell us what happened, why it mattered and let the audience carry you the rest of the way.
