Lichens of oceanic woodlands: guided walk

Lichens of oceanic woodlands: guided walk

Overview

A wander in Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve, exploring its rich oceanic lichen flora

Jean Hamilton and Jenni McGuire are Conservation Rangers in the National Parks and Wildlife Service who have a special interest in lichens. Both Jean and Jenni were being mentored by lichenologist Paul Whelan before his untimely passing in December 2025. They wish to carry on his legacy by continuing to raise the profile of lichens in Ireland. Jean and Jenni will lead a walk and talk in Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve, giving attendees an introduction to the wonderful world of lichens.

Microscopes and hand lenses will be available for use to appreciate the beauty and intricacy of lichens up close

Free event. Advance booking required.
