Tríona Marshall (Harp)

Tríona Marshall (Harp)

Overview

A solo performance by Tríona Marshall weaving together traditional airs, contemporary Irish compositions and her own arrangements

Irish harpist Tríona Marshall is celebrated for the expressive depth and radiant tone of her playing, bringing together the worlds of Irish traditional, classical, and contemporary music. Her performances are marked by emotional clarity, subtle virtuosity, and a profound sense of connection with audiences.

A former member of The Chieftains, with whom she toured internationally for almost two decades, Tríona has performed in many of the world’s leading concert halls and collaborated with artists across a wide range of styles.

Her solo work reflects a return to a more personal voice, weaving together traditional airs, contemporary Irish compositions and her own arrangements.

Whether performing in an intimate theatre or a grand concert hall, Tríona’s playing draws listeners into the stillness, clarity, and resonance at the heart of the harp’s sound.

On the previous Thursday 24th September, Tríona, together with singer Ályth McCormack and multi-instrumentalist Graham Henderson, will have brought harp, voice and keyboards to the stage as part of the Harp Sessions at the Sugar Club, drawing from the deep well of Gaelic song and the Irish harp tradition. Ályth, raised on the Isle of Lewis in the Scottish Outer Hebrides, is one of the foremost interpreters of Gaelic song and a long-standing featured singer with The Chieftains.

By contrast and as a complement to that presentation, in tonight’s concert at Rathfarnham Tríona brings her unique sound to the solo stage. Playing with the mastery of a virtuoso and the voice of a storyteller, the harp comes to life in her hands. She delivers a performance that invites the audience into an intimate musical space, where every note is meaningful, and the surprising depth of a single instrument is revealed with colour and vitality and a timeless music that feels authentic and powerful.

Taken together, these two concerts highlight the musical diversity of Tríona’s exceptional talent.

This concert is presented by the OPW as part of the 2026 Cultural Programme at Rathfarnham Castle. Doors open at 7.30pm and the performance runs from 8pm to 9.30pm. Tickets are €20 including booking fee.
