Behind the maps: Dublin city and suburbs in the Irish Historic Towns Atlas

The Irish Historic Towns Atlas (IHTA) is a research programme of the Royal Irish Academy and has publishd 32 towns/cities and 3 suburbs to date on the island of Ireland. It records the topographical development of urban settlements and is part of a larger European project that has over 620 atlases published.

This two-hour workshop will take place in the Royal Irish Academy where participants will learn about the origins of the IHTA as well as how to use it as a tool in researching Dublin’s urban and suburban topographical history. The aim of the workshop is to unlock the IHTA methodology so users of the atlas can carry out their own research and understanding in their local town or city, regionally, nationally or internationally.
