Historian Liz Gillis brings the Battle of Mount Street Bridge to life with stories from this pivotal 1916 Easter Rising clash.
On Wednesday 26 April 1916, a handful of Irish Volunteers held off hundreds of British soldiers marching into Dublin along Northumberland Road, just a few minutes from Slattery’s front door. From their positions at Clanwilliam House and 25 Northumberland Road, they caused the heaviest British losses of Easter Week, and the fight at Mount Street Bridge became one of the most remarkable stories of the Rising. Join renowned Dublin historian and author Liz Gillis at Slattery’s D4 as she tells the story of the battle, the people who fought in it and the streets we still walk every day. This is the third night in our Drops, Quarts & Gallons of History series, in association with the Ringsend & District Historical Society. Entry is free, but places are limited, so please book your ticket and let us know if you can’t make it so someone else can have your seat.
