Supervision provides a co-created space to reflect on the breadth and depth of your coaching practice and who you are as a coach.

It is:

  • Formative ; an opportunity to learn and grow as a coach, with new skills, techniques modelled by the supervisor
  • Normative; an opportunity to address challenges or issues that come up in the coaches work, including ethical concerns, conflicts etc
  • Restorative; a resourcing space for the coach to practice self-care and be supported

Increasingly, coaches will be expected to be in regular supervision as part of their professional development:

  • EMCC requires coaches to have at least four individual hours of supervision each year.
  • ICF strongly recommends supervision - it is not yet a mandatory requirement, but likely to become a requirement soon.
  • Many corporate buyers of coaching also require that their internal and external coaches have regular supervision.
