Discussion on the collection of objects at St Fagan’s that represents contemporary LGBTQ+ experiences and events in Wales.

Mark Etheridge is a Curator at St Fagans National Museum of History, in Cardiff, and is responsible for the LGBTQ+ collection. This presentation discusses the ongoing work with individuals and community groups to collect objects for the St Fagans collection that represent contemporary LGBTQ+ experiences and events in Wales. These include collecting from community groups such as Glitter Cymru, a support and social group for LGBTQ+ ethnic minorities in Wales; collecting contemporary events such as the changes of rules around gay and bi men donating blood, and the passing of a Church in Wales bill that now allows the blessing of same sex marriages; and also the impact of Covid-19 on pride events in Wales, and how St Fagans changed its approach, and collected digital pride events.Curator of Industry and Transport at St Fagans National Museum of History in Cardiff, Mark is responsible for LGBTQ+ history. He is a committee member of the Oral History Society’s LGBTQ+ Special Interest Group, and co-founder of Hanes LHDT+ Cymru/LGBTQ+ Research Group Wales. Mark is also holds curatorial responsibility for early historic photography collections, including an internationally important collection by the circle of John Dillwyn Llewelyn (a collection of 1,240 prints, paper and glass negatives, mainly dating to the 1850s). Management of the industry &amp; transport photographic collections (over 206,000 images). Please note this is a live stream event.
