The Glass Society of Ireland is made up of people whose interests or professions significantly relate to the specific material of glass.  Drawing from diverse creative and enterprising fields including art, design, craft, research, collecting and the historical context, we are a volunteer-run organisation whose interest in glass provides us with a mutual cause for conversation.It is the primary objective of the Glass Society of Ireland to continue to support established practitioners in Glass whilst fostering new talent. We also aim to create opportunities to communicate with each other and to engage with new audiences. This is achieved through a number of platforms: exhibition-making, holding events such as conferences, workshops and public talks, networking through social media and information distribution through our website, blog and monthly e-bulletin. Through these activities, professional connections are established both nationally and internationally.

19th June Glass Studio Visits - Open days

Sunday 19th June,  Irish artists working in glass will open their studio to visits from the public all over Ireland. All types of glass  techniques can be seen.  Talk to artists, see what is involved in working with glass, see the processes in action.

Michelle O Donnell owner and creator of Glasshammer Design is currently working on a large fused commission for Ballyboden Oratory Rathfarnham Co Dublin. Visit the studio and meet the artist where she will explain the process from concept to finished installed work. Michelle works on large scale public art projects fusing and slumping sheets of glass. Painting, forming and melding glass in colourful combinations is a signature of this studio. Demonstrations and detailed explanations will be given on the day. The visit is an hour long and has a max of 10 per visit. Michelle O&#x27;Donnell is an internationally acclaimed glass artist based in Rhode, Co. Offaly. A Donegal native, she attended art school in Belfast. During a stint working on fishing boats, she noticed there was a distinct interplay between colour and light in water and began experimenting in different medium to convey this in her work. Glass became her material of choice as a means of capturing the beauty, palette and atmosphere of nature in all its environments. She is a professional, 21 years in her field, making fused glass artworks and sculptures, in her purpose-built studio.She specialises in bespoke pieces, which have lead to a dynamic body of work suited to various different environments, from corporate and industrial workspaces to private homes and gardens.
