The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We have been working in Ireland since 1990 and collaborate with Irish organisations to foster connections between Ireland and the UK.We enable Irish and UK organisations and individuals to share their insight, expertise and knowledge in culture, higher education and science, which results in bespoke programmes and partnerships to mutually benefit Ireland and the UK.We work with over 100 countries across the world in the fields of arts and culture, English language, education and civil society. Last year we reached over 80 million people directly and 791 million people overall including online, broadcasts and publications. Academically Speaking is FREE communications training for RCSI researchers by leading skills coach, Malcolm Love.

In 2022, Academically Speaking (formally known as Scientifically Speaking) is offering two FREE introductory communications training to RCSI* researchers. These two bespoke trainings will take place consecutively on the 7 and 8 September and will enhance researchers' ability to communicate their work and other topics that matter to them with more impact and effect.******************************************************************************************************INTRODUCTORY WORKSHOP 1Introductory Workshop 1 asks the question 'why tell stories?' It focuses on how stories work and how that teaches us to make compelling content. It also looks at developing our ‘body language’ and using it effectively. Eligibility:Researchers from any discipline who are based in/connected to RCSI. Previous Academically/Scientifically Speaking workshop participants are welcome to attend again to refresh their knowledge and skills. These have immediate value but also turn out to enhance our communication skills in general. It also introduces and explores the extraordinary power of improvisation.Eligibility: Researchers from any discipline who are based in/connected to RCSI. Previous Academically/Scientifically Speaking workshop participants are welcome to attend again to refresh their knowledge and skills. Projects were funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. In 2021 Scientifically Speaking ran as a partnership with British Council Ireland and Trinity College Dublin.For the 2022 programme British Council are partnering with Trinity College Dublin once again, this time to deliver the rebranded Academically Speaking to researchers. About Malcolm LoveFormerly a senior producer (programme maker) at the BBC, <a href="https://www.malcolmlove.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Malcolm Love</a> is an independent producer, radio presenter, lecturer in public engagement and a public communication skills coach and trainer. He specialises in helping scientists, researchers and other academics communicate their work through talks, events, radio and TV and the internet. His clients include well known organisations such as ESA, NASA, CERN, British Academy, FENS (representing European Neuroscience) and numerous universities.
