A roundtable about the motivation behind writing, and the presence of nature and landscape in literature

Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation

Where does poetry come from? And narrative fiction? Our guests at this round table will discuss the motivation behind their writings, and the presence of nature and landscape (forest, desert, sea) in their work. They will reflect, too, on the complexity of human relationships and nature, and how to care for them in this changing world.

Moya Cannon is an Irish poet and member of the Irish association of artists Aosdána. Her first book, Oar, was published in 1990. She published Collected Poems in 2021. Sergio Missana is the author of novels, essays and children’s books. He is Professor of Latin American Literature and Executive Director of the NGO Climate Parliament. His novel The Transentients (trad. Jessica Powell) is published in English.Jordi Soler is a Mexican author of then novels, translated into several languages. He has published books of short stories, essays and poetry, and also writes articles for newspapers and magazines. He was a diplomat in Ireland and currently lives in Barcelona. His latest published book is Los hijos del volcán.Catherine Dunne is the author of ten published novels, and one non-fiction work, An Unconsidered People. She has also contributed essays to several anthologies, including Reading the Future and Look! It’s a Woman Writer! Her work has been translated into a dozen languages.
