This lecture focuses on events in Northern Ireland during the Civil War in the twenty-six counties.

<p>During the 1922-23 period, the Northern Ireland government consolidated its power through a combination of emergency powers, electoral reform and the promotion of the idea of a unionist cross-class alliance at a time of economic uncertainty. </p><p>Many northern nationalists felt the Civil War was of no concern to those in the six counties, while others crossed the border to fight on either the pro or anti Treaty side. The lecture explores these issues and more before reflecting on the legacy of this period on the history of the north of Ireland in the twentieth century. </p>
