OVER LAND & SEA - An evening of music and poetry

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach. We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. Goethe-Institut Irland

Two concerts with Shayan Coohe and Shahab Coohe, Yasmin Rahaei and German singer/songwriter Emileo.

On the 21 and 22 of November 2022, the Goethe-Institut Irland will host two concerts inspired by the work of the Persian poet Hafez &amp; the German poet Goethe. Over Land &amp; Sea will be an evening of music and poetry performed by Shayan Coohe and Shahab Coohe, Yasmin Rahaei and the German singer/songwriter Emileo. The concerts will feature bespoke visuals by artist Néstor Romero Clemente. These two nights will bring cultures together and breathe life into the work of Goethe and Hafez with music.On the 21 of November, Shayan Coohe and Shahab Coohe will play an improvisation on Persian classical music (pure Persian music) and on the 22 an improvisation on Persian contemporary classical music (their own approach to Persian music). Yasmin Rahaei will recite poems by Hafez. On both nights Emileo will be performing some of her own songs as well as musical interpretations of poems by Goethe.There will be seating and standing room based on first come first serve.On both evenings: Admission from 7 pm, start of the concert 7:30 pm.Snacks and drinks can be bought at Camerino Bakery Café in the basement level of the Goethe-Institut.

B﻿ioE﻿mileoIf the term ‘World Music’ can be personified and placed, it nestles deep in the body and soul of Emily Radke, aka Emileo. Born in the east of Berlin in 2000, she moved to Spain at 16 before heading south to the romantic, mystical terrain of Morocco before winning the inaugural Sinead O'Connor BA Commercial Modern Music Scholarship in the BIMM Institute, Dublin in 2020, the city where she currently lives and writes. This fearless sense of pioneering, nomadic adventure mirrors Emileo’s extraordinary musical talents and communicative skills - studying piano at 6 years of age, drumming in a jazz band at 12, a lead singer/guitarist in a pop duo by 14 and now lyrically proficient in five languages - to reveal an artist that delivers a remarkable kaleidoscope of sounds and imagery that soars with individuality and heart. Her music is firmly rooted in those sun-kissed, travelled cultures but is also informed by the glacial textures of her Germanic origins. In her songs, the artist remembers the blue of Berlin's August sky or how she lost her heart to Marrakesh, where the red streets burn under a pomegranate sun…

Shahab CooheBorn in a family of music lovers, Shahab started his music education at the Tehran School of Music aged eight, under the direction of Majid Kiani, one of the contemporary masters of Santoor (a trapezoid-shaped stringed instrument that pre-dates Dulcimer and piano) while studying western classical music. Shahab graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin in BA Violin Performance studied with Michael d'Arcy and Mia Cooper. Shahab has been living in Ireland for the last 8 years. He has been performing alongside his brother for the last 20 years. They have performed concerts based on Persian classical music and contemporary music accordance with the improvisation concept in a number of well-known festivals. He has given Lectures in concern with Middle eastern and Persian classical music and improvisation at Trinity College Dublin and Royal Irish Academy of Music. He has been involved in various contemporary classical music events and performing new music for the last few years.

Shayan Coohe Born in a family of music lovers, Shayan started his music education at the Tehran School of Music aged eight, under the direction of mohamadreza lotfi , one of the contemporary masters of Tar while studying western classical music. (‘clarinet) Shayan graduated from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin in BA Clarinet Performance studied with Dr Paul Roe. He has recently completed his masters in Musicology and Ethnomusicology at University College Dublin. Shayan has been living in Ireland for the last 10 years. He has been performing alongside his brother for the last 20 years. They have performed concerts based on Persian classical music and contemporary music accordance with the improvisation concept in a number of well-known festivals. He has given Lectures in concern with Middle eastern and Persian classical music and improvisation at Trinity College Dublin and Royal Irish Academy of Music.
