She has served as a member of the UN Committee for Development Policy, and as adviser to several UN agencies, including most recently, UN Women and UNDP. She has published widely on gender equality, economic policy and human rights, including (with R. Balakrishnan and J. Heintz) Rethinking Economics for Social Justice: The Radical Potential of Human Rights, Routledge, London, 2016; and (with Marion Sharples) ‘Addressing intersecting inequalities through alternative economic strategies’ in S. Atrey and S. Fredman (eds.) Exponential Inequalities, Oxford, OUP, 2023. She was awarded the 2016 Leontief Prize for Advancing Frontiers of Economic Thought by the Global Development and Environment Institute at Tufts University.Discussants: Dr Shana Cohen has been the director of Think tank for Action on Social Change(TASC) since 2017. In addition to her directorship, she works directly on projects involving social inclusion, economic inequality, democracy, and climate justice. For instance, she is drafting a report for Safe Ireland on how social policy can support victims of DSGBV. She has also worked on the social prescribing programme with the Coop in NEIC and policy reports on migration and social solidarity in the EU, as well as the effect of the financial crisis on the top 10% of income earners in Ireland, Sweden, Spain, and the UK. In addition to her work at TASC, Shana is an Affiliate Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, University of Cambridge.Owen Reidy, General Secretary, Irish Congress of Trade Unions, a father of 2 and a native of Donegal has 24 years of full-time experience in the Irish trade union movement. He started his career as a union official in SIPTU in the west of Ireland and occupied a range of roles in the union representing and organising workers in the aviation, insurance, and finance, non-commercial semi-states, and cleaning and security sectors. He was appointed one of SIPTU’s 5 Divisional Organisers in 2013 when he managed and ran the unions Transport, Energy, Aviation and Construction Division. During this time he was involved in a number of high profiled and successful industrial disputes including the Greyhound lockout, the Luas dispute, and pay disputes in the CIE transport companies.
