On cinematic wavelength: a message in battle from Ukraine and poetry stories from Ireland

This evening at Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation will feature a selection of video poetry by Ukrainian and Irish poets. The programme will include poems by some of Ukraine’s most prominent contemporary poets: Yurii Andykhovych, Yurii Izdryk, Halyna Kruk, Serhiy Zhadan, Olha Matso, and others, as well as some of Ireland’s leading young poets, including Molly Twomey and Seán Hewitt. All Ukrainian video poems will include English subtitles. The universe of video poetry is like a cosmic ocean, with shells of poems glistening from its depths in a vast field of cinematic waves. This innovative multimedia genre is the perfect way to experience poetry on Poetry Day Ireland. Join us to hear, read, and see all the messages in a poetic bottle! Come and find your favourite wave in the ocean of video poetry! A﻿dmission is free and all are welcome: please do not book more than one ticket per person.

T﻿his event is organised as part of Poetry Day Ireland 2023, an annual celebration of poetry which invites the nation to read, write, and share a poem on the day. A﻿bout the organisers:

Ema Vyroubalová, originally from the Czech Republic and assistant professor in the School of English at Trinity College Dublin, teaches and writes about Renaissance literature, stage and film adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays, and literary translation. Over the last year she has been involved in the Worldwide Ukrainian Play Readings initiative.

Olha Matso is a Ukrainian poet, actor, performer, theatre director and cultural journalist living in Ireland. She is the author and actress in the dramatised poetic fairy show “At half To you…” and the organiser of many cultural events in Ukraine. She has performed at international festivals and poetry events in Ukraine, Austria, Czech Republic, Poland, Spain and Ireland.
