Ireland Glass Biennale  Symposium

The Ireland Glass Biennale is co-funded by the NCAD and Creative Europe as part of a Creative Europe project: Imagining Sustainable Glass Network Europe (ISGNE). This EU funded project includes four partners in the UK, Germany, Latvia and Ireland, and engages with thirty-three associated organisations in nineteen European countries. This ambitious five-year project has initiated a dynamic schedule of cultural events, workshops, exhibitions and publications revolving around glass and its endless possibilities within the context of intangible cultures, visual and applied arts and design.

Artists, designer-makers, educators, curators, researchers and students will explore how to sustain the authenticity of their practices.

NCAD in association with the Office of Public Works is delighted to present the 2023 Irish Glass Symposium; Creative Resilience: advocacy and community building through educational and glass practice(s).The two-day symposium brings together artists, designer-makers, educators, curators, researchers and students in an exploration of how to sustain the authenticity of their practices(s).The symposium will run in conjunction with the Ireland Glass Biennale 2023 exhibition, which opens to the public on 28 April, 2023 at the Coach House Gallery, Dublin Castle Gardens.Keynotes:Kevin O&#x27; Dwyer, Visual Artist and Andrew Brewerton, Professor Emeritus at Arts University Plymouth. Symposium Contributors: Debbie Dawson, Robin Cass, Róisín de Buitléár, Carrie Fertig, Karen Donnellan, Sadhbh Mowlds, Fiona Byrne, Kevin Killen, KT Hancock, Matt Durran, Thérèse Bouwens- van Herwaarden, Anna Varnase, Birgit Pählapuu, Gayle Matthias. Joining us virtually will be Cathye Yang, Academic Research Manager at the Shanghai Museum of Glass.The NCAD Ireland Glass Biennale seeks to present and provoke international perspectives, explorations and manifestations of glass as creative expression. The Ireland Glass Biennale will highlight the excellence and curiosity of contemporary glass practices by national and international artists, designers and crafts practitioners. ​
