A lecture on James Joyce and Ulysses by Prof. Sam Slote (TCD) as part of the Bloomsday Festival 2023.

Ulysses may be set in Dublin but it was written in exile: in Trieste, Zurich, and Paris – as is reflected in its epigraph. Trieste is where Joyce conceived and began writing Ulysses and was, as he called it, his &quot;second country.&quot; Zurich is where most of it was written. And Paris is where he finished and published it.In this talk, Professor Sam Slote (Trinity College Dublin) will look at the traces these cities leave in the text of Ulysses and Finnegans Wake to show how Joyce’s Dublin is refracted through his other cities.Please join us on Wednesday, 14 June 2023 at 7:30pm. This talk is part of the James Joyce Centre&#x27;s Spring/Summer Lecture Series. The event is free but booking is essential.The Bloomsday Festival is organised by the James Joyce Centre in partnership with Fáilte Ireland, Dublin City Council, Dublin UNESCO City of Literature, The Ireland Funds, and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
