EPIC & the French National Museum of the History of Immigration, have developed a unique collaboration to change the way we look at racism.

<h3>Can Sport and Culture help us to fight racism, enhance diversity and better understand contemporary issues related to migration?</h3>With: Lilian Thuram &amp; Chiamaka Enyi-AmadiModerated by: Dr Ebun JosephEPIC &amp; the French National Museum of the History of Immigration, in association with the French Embassy in Ireland, have developed a unique collaboration to change the way we look at racism.As part of this cooperation, we invite you to a discussion between the former 1998 FIFA World Cup Champion and anti-racism campaigner Lilian Thuram and the Irish-Nigerian poet and editor Chiamaka Enyi-Amadi to better understand contemporary issues related to migration and to deconstruct a few preconceived ideas. In France, for almost a century, the histories of sport, diversity and immigration have intersected and intertwined. These interconnected stories, marked by great success also highlight issues of racism and stigmatisation. How can we analyse them? How can we put them into perspective?In his book &quot;White Thinking&quot;, Lilian Thuram invites us to shift our perspective in order to reflect on the origin and persistence of these behaviours, well beyond sport, to be able to build a society that is open to the world and to others.In Ireland, the Great Famine propelled the first mass emigration in the middle of the 19th century. At first heavily stigmatised in their host countries, the newcomers were also victims of one of the earliest anti-immigrant political movements in America. Today, the descendants of these migrants contribute to Ireland’s influence in the world.In the 21st century, Ireland has become a land of immigration and is in turn nourished by the richness and diversity of people from elsewhere, who may also find themselves victims of xenophobia and discrimination.Author Chiamaka Enyi-Amada will speak about their stories and their legacies and she will also talk about the reality of a changing Irish culture, open to foreign influences.<blockquote>Lilian Thuram and Chiamaka Enyi-Amada : Two perspectives to look differently at the present time.</blockquote>Lilian Thuram was born in Guadeloupe in 1972. In 2008, he founded the foundation for Education against Racism and for Equality to raise awareness of the impact of racism around the world. He is the author of several books including White Thinking (Hero, 2021) and My Black Stars (Liverpool University Press, 2021), for which he received the Seligmann Prize against racism. He was awarded the Kéba-Mbaye Foundation&#x27;s Ethics Prize in Senegal in 2014, and holds honorary doctorates in humanities from the universities of Stockholm in Sweden and Stirling in Scotland.Previously, he had a prestigious career as an international footballer. With the French national team, he was World Champion in 1998 and European Champion in 2000.Chiamaka Enyi-Amada is an Irish poet, columnist, editor, and arts facilitator. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, she moved to Galway as a ten-year-old. Enyi-Amadi’s work is widely published online and in print, notably in the anthology The Art of the Glimpse: 100 Irish Short Stories, edited by Sinéad Gleeson (Head of Zeus, 2020). She has performed at many festivals and venues including the Dublin Human Rights Festival and the Measuring Equality in the Arts Sector conference. Enyi-Amadi is a recipient of the 2019 Poetry Ireland Access Cúirt Bursary, and her work was longlisted for the An Post Irish Book Awards Writing.ie Short Story of the Year 2020.The anthology she co-edited in 2019, Writing Home: The ‘New Irish’ Poets, is a major new anthology of writing from Ireland that acknowledges and celebrates the contribution of those whose roots lie outside of the country providing a fresh new portrait of a changing Ireland and, by extension, a changing world. Dr Ebun Joseph is Director of the Institute of Antiracism and Black Studies, a race relations consultant, Lecturer in Black Studies and Chairperson, African Scholars Association Ireland (AFSAI). Her recent 2020 book is titled, Racial stratification in Ireland: A Critical race theory of labour market inequality with Manchester University press. She also co-authored the book, Challenging Perceptions of Africa in Schools: Critical Approaches to Global Justice Education with Routledge in Dec, 2019.Authors’ Book Signings The authors’ books will be available for sale and signings after the conference, in partnership with the bookshop International Books.Free event with registration <h3>Le sport et la culture pour lutter contre le racisme, valoriser la diversité et mieux comprendre les enjeux contemporains liés aux migrations</h3>Les musées EPIC musée de l’émigration irlandaise et le Musée national de l’Histoire de l’immigration de la Porte dorée à Paris ont mis en place une collaboration inédite en 2023 pour changer le regard sur la migration et les migrants à travers une série de débats, d’actions éducatives et artistiques.Dans le cadre de cette coopération, nous vous invitons à une discussion entre le champion du monde de football 1998 et militant contre le racisme Lilian Thuram et la poétesse irlando-nigériane engagée pour l’égalité Chiamaka Enyi-Amadi pour mieux comprendre les enjeux contemporains liés aux migrations et déconstruire quelques idées reçues.En France, depuis près d’un siècle, sport, immigration et outre-mer se croisent et s’entrecroisent. Ces histoires croisées, fortes de réussite, mettent aussi en exergue des enjeux de racisme et de stigmatisations. Comment les analyser ? Quel regard porter sur ces processus ? Quelle mise en perspective ? Avec son livre « La Pensée blanche » Lilian Thuram nous invite à décentrer notre regard pour réfléchir à l’origine et à la persistance de ces comportements bien au-delà du sport pour pouvoir construire une société ouverte au monde et à l’Autre.En Irlande la grande famine a propulsé au XIX siècle la première émigration massive. D’abord très stigmatisés dans les pays d’accueil les nouveaux arrivants furent également victimes de l’un des premiers mouvements politiques anti-immigrés en Amérique. Aujourd’hui les descendants de ces migrants participent au rayonnement de l’Irlande dans le monde. Au XXIe siècle l’Irlande est devenue une terre d’immigration et se nourrit à son tour de la richesse et de la diversité de populations venues d’ailleurs, qui peuvent se retrouver elles aussi victimes de xénophobie et de discrimination.C’est autour de ces récits et leurs héritages qu’interviendra l’auteure Chiamaka Enyi-Amada. Elle parlera aussi de la réalité d&#x27;une culture irlandaise en mutation, ouverte aux influences étrangères.<blockquote>Deux regards croisés pour regarder autrement le temps présent.</blockquote>Lilian Thuram est né en Guadeloupe en 1972. Il a été commissaire général de l’exposition Exhibitions. L’invention du sauvage, au musée du Quai-Branly en 2011/2012. Prix de l’éthique de la Fondation Kéba-Mbaye au Sénégal en 2014, il est docteur honoris causa en sciences humaines des universités de Stockholm en Suède et de Stirling en Écosse.Dans une première vie, il a connu une carrière prestigieuse de footballeur international. Avec l’équipe de France, il a été Champion du monde en 1998 et Champion d’Europe en 2000.Chiamaka Enyi-Amada est une poétesse, chroniqueuse, éditrice et animatrice artistique irlando-nigériane. Née à Lagos, au Nigeria, elle s&#x27;est installée à Galway dans l’ouest de l’Irlande à l&#x27;âge de dix ans. La poésie d&#x27;Enyi-Amadi est largement publiée en ligne et sur papier, notamment dans le programme de poésie de RTÉ, The Irish Times, Architecture Ireland, Poetry International, Poetry Ireland Review etc. Elle a codirigé l&#x27;anthologie Writing Home: The &#x27;New Irish&#x27; Poets (Dedalus Press, 2019), une nouvelle anthologie majeure d&#x27;écrits irlandais qui reconnaît et célèbre la contribution de ceux dont les racines se trouvent en dehors du pays.
