The National Women's Council (NWC) is the national representative organisation for women in Ireland.The ambition of the National Women’s Council is an Ireland where every woman enjoys true equality and no woman is left behind. This ambition shapes and informs our work, and, with our living values, how we work. We are a movement-building organisation rooted in our membership, working on the whole island of Ireland. We are also part of the international movement to protect and advance women’s and girls’ rights.Our purpose is to lead action for the achievement of women’s and girls’ equality through mobilising, influencing, and building solidarity.

Join our event on what does valuing care mean  in the upcoming referendum

The upcoming referendum on family, care and gender equality is a unique opportunity to have a national conversation about the values we want to see reflected in our Constitution. Join us to for an open discussion with speakers to explore the proposed changes to Art. 41.2 in our Constitution. What would it mean to enshrine the value of care into our Constitution? What does valuing care mean in practice? S﻿peakers will include:<ul><li>Dr Ursula Barry, Feminist economist based in UCD with focus on the care economy, gender equality policies in Ireland and EU</li><li>Don Samaratunga, Healthcare Assistant working in elder care and member of SIPTU&#x27;s Care Sector and Migrant Worker Network</li><li>R﻿achel Coyle, Head of Campaigns and Mobilisiation, National Women&#x27;s Council </li></ul>T﻿he even twill be chaired by Margaret Martin, NWC&#x27;s Chairperson To support our preparations for the event, please email Susan McCormack Susanmcc@nwci.ie by 11th October if you have any accessibility requirements including ISL.T﻿his event is part of 5th annual Dublin Arts &amp; Human Rights Festival Programme: In Solidarity: An International Celebration of Arts and Human Rights. The festival features exciting and innovative events that promote equality, human rights and diversity through the arts, taking place in Dublin, Kerry, Donegal and Cork, with artists and speakers in attendance from Ireland, Finland, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Greece, Belgium, Cyprus, Romania, Bulgaria and Ukraine.
