Dublin Book Festival is one of Ireland’s most successful and dynamic book festivals, running since 2006 in the heart of Ireland’s capital with its rich literary history. ​This annual public festival is a celebration of Ireland’s writers and publishers. Our panel of experts will shed light on the reality of where we are today, and on contributing to shaping tomorrow. With meteorologist Joanna Donnelly, Lorna Gold, author of Climate Generation: Awakening to our Children’s Future (Veritas) and Éanna Ní Lamhna, author of Wild Musings: A Celebration of the Natural World (Veritas) in conversation with John Gibbons.This is a free event. She is passionate about explaining the science behind the weather in language that is accessible for everyone. She previously wrote The Great Irish Weather Book. Joanna is married to fellow meteorologist Harm Luijkx and they live in Portmarnock with their three children.Lorna Gold is Director of Movement Building in FaithInvest. Prior to working in FaithInvest, she was Head of Policy and Advocacy in Trócaire. She has previously worked in the Department of Politics at the University of York, where she was the recipient of the Joseph Rowntree Centennial Fellowship and an ESRC postdoctoral fellowship. She has a PhD from the Department of Geography at the University of Glasgow. She writes widely on a range of development issues, including the Millennium Development Goals and the relationship between Catholic social teaching and ethical business models. She has a particular interest in the changing shape of Ireland’s development policy.Éanna Ní Lamhna is a biologist, environmental consultant, radio and television presenter, author, educator and Irish Times contributor. Her previous books include Wild and Wonderful (O’Brien Press, 2004), Straight Talking Wild (Town House, 2006), Wild Dublin (O’Brien Press, 2008) and Our Wild World (O’Brien Press, 2021).Based in Dublin, John Gibbons has been writing and campaigning on environmental and climate issues for the last decade and a half, including three years as a weekly environmental columnist with the Irish Times. He regularly appears on national broadcast media outlets, including RTE (TV and radio), Virgin TV, BBC TV and CBC, TodayFM and NewsTalk. He has been a weekly environmental columnist with The Last Word on Today FM for the last two years. John is a regular contributor to a range of print and online media outlets, including, the Business Post, Irish Times, Guardian (UK), Irish Examiner, TheJournal.ie, and DeSmog UK, among others. A journalist by training, he is an experienced public speaker on environment and climate issues, giving talks in schools and universities, as well as participating as a guest speaker in a wide range of public events. He is also co-author of the Routledge Handbook of Environmental Journalism (2020). A father of two, in addition but separate to his environmental advocacy work, John is co-founder of a Dublin-based healthcare publishing and creative organisation.
