Arts in Action is a world-class programme of live arts events for the University of Galway community. Of a lunchtime we gather, inspire, converse and challenge.  The University and its research is our pulse, the live event our beating heart!

Join us for an incredible afternoon of song and music at the O'Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance. Get ready to be blown away by the amazing performances of soprano Megan O'Neill and harpist Teresa O'Donnell. We look forward to welcoming you to this event that is brought about by our long-standing partnership with Music for Galway. Bígí linn!Teresa O'Donnell is a freelance pedal and Irish harpist and singer, who has performed throughout Ireland, Europe, North America, Africa and Asia. She began her harp studies with the late Sr. Eugene McCabe, later studied with the renowned French harpist, Sebastien Lipman, and attended masterclasses with Professor Witsenberg and Han Ann Liu. In 1998, she graduated from Trinity College Dublin with an honours Degree in Music and Gaeilge and followed this with a Masters in Performance and Musicology. Teresa has lectured in music at St. Patrick’s College, DCU and was awarded a Foras Feasa fellowship to research a PhD on ‘The Music Association of Ireland: A Cultural and Social History’ (2012). She has performed with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and appeared on stage with Andrea Bocelli, Sinead O’ Connor, The Chieftains, The Celtic Tenors, Tommy Fleming and Katherine Jenkins. She has appeared on many TV networks and is director and honorary secretary of Cruit Éireann / Harp Ireland, and was appointed musician in residence with Fingal County Council. Megan O'Neill is soprano from County Kerry, pursuing a Doctor in Music Performance Degree at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. She graduated with a First Class-Honours Degree in Music from Maynooth University in 2018. She completed the Masters in Music Performance Degree at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in August 2020, graduating with a First-Class Honours Degree. O'Neill was awarded the Collins Memorial Award 2023, she was the winner of the RDS Music Bursary 2022 and the winner of the Gervase Elwes Memorial Cup at the Feis Ceoil 2022.Past engagements include:o The titular role of Cinderella by Alma Deutscher at Wexford Festival Operao Played the role of ‘Teen Polar Bear’ in Won’t Bring Back The Snow by Brian Irvine and John McIlduff, produced by Dumbworld and Irish National Opera.o Played the role of Signora Avoglio in All the Angels by Nick Drake in Smock Alley Theatre, Dublin, and The Everyman Theatre, Cork.
