Level One Kayak Skills Award from Canoeing Ireland plus 2024 Annual KCC Membership

Saturday 10am - 4.30pm, Kilcullen Canoe Clubhouse Attendance is mandatory. The charge covers €30 for the beginners course and €100 for the junior club membership for the 2024 year. A junior by club definition is an individual aged between twelve and eighteen. Children under 12 years require permission and must join along with an guardian/parent or as part of a family. Please contact secretary@kilcullencanoeclub.com if you wish to join your child up under the recommended age of twelve. Kayak, helmet, PFD and buoyancy aid will be provided.Please wear hard sole shoes you are happy to get wet, such as old runners. Please wear warm old clothes ensuring there is no cotton in the fabric; such as ski base layers or lycra clothing is best. If you have a wetsuit, this is perfect! Please bring adequate snacks and lunch. This course will be based in the KCC Clubhouse only and is designed to get a Canoeing Ireland Level 1 Kayak Skills Award. With this award, the below syllabus will be covered over the Friday evening and Saturday morning. <ul><li>An understanding of the Basic Safety Rules of canoeing.</li></ul><ul><li>An ability to Enter and Exit correctly.</li></ul><ul><li>Forward Paddle, Reverse Paddle, and Stop.</li></ul><ul><li>Capsize Drill</li></ul><ul><li>An ability to turn while stationary using Forward Sweep Stroke, Reverse Sweep Stroke and a combination of Forward and Reverse Sweep Strokes.</li></ul>
