HER Outdoors Week - A Week for Women With Altitude

HER Outdoors Week returns once again from 12th – 18th August, and what a week it will be! The week is all about providing more opportunities for ALL females to escape to the outdoors and try something new.Mountaineering Ireland is delighted to collaborate with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership in organising this Introduction to Navigation activity which will be based in Sligo, meeting in Cashelgarren.This event will start at 9.30am and will finish by approximately 3pm.This activity is focused on introducing participants to navigation and is ideal for women who wish to gain confidence on the hills as navigators and to become more independent, thus increasing the ability to explore unfamiliar terrain and new locations. The instructor will cover basic map-reading and compass skills. No previous navigation experience is necessary.What gear do I need?<ul><li>Hiking boots with woolly or synthetic socks (not cotton)</li><li>Comfortable clothing, e.g. leggings / tracksuit bottoms, breathable T-Shirt and fleece &amp; an extra warm layer (try to avoid cotton).</li><li>Small backpack</li><li>Waterproof jacket and pants</li><li>Hat and gloves</li><li>An extra warm layer or two in your backpack</li><li>Water (minimum 1.5 litres), lunch and snacks</li><li>Sunscreen, personal medicine, inhaler, Epipen, etc.</li><li>OSI, Harvey or EastWest map of the area and a compass if you have one – maps and compasses may be supplied by the instructor.</li><li>Mobile phone (fully charged)</li></ul>Refund policy: refunds will be issued if requested at least 7 days prior to the event.
