Following his sensational DICMF début with his Bantu Ensemble last year, the electrifying South African cellist Abel Selaocoe returns with the sure promise to engage and excite audiences in this exciting new venue to DICMF.

Described by The Guardian as “one of the most captivating performers the classical music world can lay a claim on”, Abel Selaocoe has established himself as a leading voice of reimagining classical music, moving seamlessly across a plethora of genres and styles. Selaocoe combines virtuosic performance with improvisation, singing and body percussion, and is devoted to composing works and curating programmes that highlight the links between Western and non-Western musical traditions, broadening the horizons of classical music to reach a more diverse audience. In 2023, he was awarded the RPS Instrumentalist Award for his performances and collaborations which "blaze with creation, sending audiences home on a high".

The Dublin International Chamber Music Festival (formerly Great Music in Irish Houses) is Ireland’s longest-established chamber music festival and was founded in Castletown House in 1970. Since then, the month of June has been a musical summer must for Irish chamber music devotees. Our objective was and still is, to present concerts of chamber music, “the music of friends” in the sort of smaller, intimate spaces for which the music was originally written, away from the more formal setting of a concert hall. Over the years we have offered Irish audiences the opportunity to hear some of the finest international and Irish artists perform a vast range of chamber music in a variety of Ireland’s most historic and notable buildings, spaces that would not normally resound with beautiful and exciting music. Stately Irish Houses are juxtaposed with some of the country’s iconic, modern buildings showing the diversity of Irish architectural and interior design. From that small sapling planted in Castletown House, the great oak that is now the current Festival has grown and is recognised widely as a prestigious platform for world-class musicians.

DICMF is a non-profit making organisation and depends on the support of sponsors and Friends to continue its work into the future. It is funded by The Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
