Tools and Practices for navigating uncertain times, based in Joanna Macy's Work That Reconnects
Feeling sunk or overwhelmed by the problems of our world?
This Active Hope workshop offers practices to nourish, sustain and enliven active engagement for positive change.
Active Hope is quite different from feeling hopeful. It begins with a shift from viewing hope as a feeling, to hope as a practice. Whatever we face, and however we feel, the practice of active hope is something we can bring to that. There is a power to our turning up like this and playing our part.
This interactive workshop is a chance to explore, experience and practice Active Hope - both doing it and supporting it, as a grounded approach for staying inspired, effective and resourced as we face overwhelming challenges in our world. A central framework we’ll draw on is ‘the Work That Reconnects’, an empowerment approach developed by Joanna Macy and colleagues, and used with hundreds of thousands of people around the world over the last four decades. It has become a powerful tool for preventing burnout and keeping alive our sense of possibility, sustaining our passion and engagement in difficult conditions.
Whether you are familiar with Active Hope, or brand new to it, this is a great opportunity to practice alongside others.

This workshop is particularly suitable for anyone interested in playing a role in passing this work on, as it can serve as an introduction to the Facilitator Training Programme starting in September.
