This hands-on advanced endoscopy course concentrates on endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with techniques used in common and difficult cases. Biliary and pancreatic sphincterotomy are used for many pancreaticobiliary conditions. Successful ERCP requires deep cannulation of the common bile duct or the main pancreatic duct via the major duodenal papilla (papilla of Vater). Occasionally cannulation of the major papilla and sphincterotomy can be challenging and pose a risk to the patient. This course addresses strategies for biliary and pancreatic cannulation, intervention at the major and minor papilla including dilatation. This course will initially outline common and uncommon anatomical presentations of the anatomy of the ampulla and biliary tree. Tips and tricks will be shared concerning endoscopic equipment, cannulation techniques, wire management and elevators used. You will practice cannulating the pancreatic duct using the double wire technique, performing a sphincterotomy, ampulla dilatation and the use of the Erbium YAG (Er:YAG) laser. The course will end with closure techniques and stent insertion.
