Alternative Lithography Weekend Course
This course will cover alternative lithography techniques
25-26 July
10am-5pm each day
Tutor Brian Barry
Discover beginner-friendly alternatives to traditional stone lithography in this course. You’ll explore two exciting techniques—Kitchen Lithography and Polyester Plate Lithography—that offer a fresh approach to printmaking without the need for harsh chemicals.
Explore Kitchen Lithography, where you’ll use everyday materials like tinfoil to create fast, fluid prints. This technique encourages an experimental, carefree approach to drawing and printing, using both traditional lithographic materials and everyday tools like markers and biros.
Learn Polyester Plate Lithography, using flexible, lightweight plates that allow for high-quality prints. You’ll create your drawings directly on the plate with permanent markers, biros, and a homemade toning solution, all with minimal chemical use. Digital options, including laser jet printers, will also be demonstrated to open up new possibilities for combining digital and handmade elements.
By the end of the weekend, you'll have created a series of unique prints and gained hands-on experience with these printmaking methods. You’ll also have gained an insight into the methods and process of the sometimes-intimidating world of stone lithography which you may choose to investigate at a future date.
Cork Printmakers reserves the right to cancel any course with insufficient enrolment, and when this occurs any and all prepaid fees will be refunded. Cork Printmakers does not refund fees paid by participants who subsequently cancel their place in a course.
