Overview

Join us for a captivating event where we delve into the fascinating world of Irish hoverflies. Led by rising-star entomologist, Owen Beckett (Hoverfly validator at the National Biodiversity Data Centre), this in-person gathering is perfect for nature enthusiasts and curious minds alike.

Sitting on the grounds of the beautiful and peaceful Baltyboys House estate, the microWild Education Centre is a restored granite cottage which doubles as the perfect nature workshop location. Through an engaging presentation, you will discover the incredible diversity of hoverflies found in Ireland and learn about their essential role in our ecosystem. Step outside the door, and you will be met with over 100 acres of serene lakeside land, trees and a beautiful pond, perfect for searching for, catching and identifying a wealth of Irish hoverfly fauna.

Owen is well known in the Irish entomology community and is very active in sharing his knowledge and insights on all manner of insect and invertebrate life across multiple social media platforms.

So, whether you're a seasoned nature lover or just starting to explore the wonders of the insect world, this event promises to be an exciting and educational experience. Don't miss out on this chance to broaden your knowledge and appreciation for these often-overlooked insects guided by a most friendly and accessible expert.

All proceeds from the event will help fund the microWild Biodiversity Meadow Project.

Spaces are very limited, so please reserve your spot early to avoid disappointment.
