In this lecture series, we're going to explore in depth the incredible music of Aphex Twin. I'll be playing snippets of the key tracks and talking about their musical composition, structure, chords, melodies, sound design, equipment used, and impact.
Questions welcome! This will be an interactive lecture.
You will also get to meet other people who share a love of Aphex Twin's music.
I've been studying and transcribing Aphex Twin's music for years now. For the past few months I've been uploading a series of videos to YouTube with some of my discoveries, including but not limited to:
- interesting structures that don't reveal themselves easily
- unusual chords and modes
- background harmonies that aren't very obvious
- beautiful bass lines
- rhythmically complex drum patterns
Join me for a walk-through of the early releases of Aphex, from the first one Analogue Bubblebath, to SAW 85-92. We won't get through every track on this period but we'll look at the ones I consider the most important of this period. If you have suggestions for tracks from this period of time I'd love to hear them!
Not: all participants will receive a link to the video afterwards, so if you miss the event you can watch the playback.
