Overview

Dublin’s award-winning Dulciana Vocal Ensemble performs seasonal favourites featuring new arrangements written by members of the choir.

Dublin’s award-winning upper voices choir, Dulciana Vocal Ensemble, is delighted to announce that it is performing a magical Christmas concert on Monday, December 22nd, featuring seasonal favourites arranged by members of the choir for the very first time. Arranged by Christmas will take place in Sandford Parish Church, Ranelagh, promising a night of music, sparkle, and festive fun.

Under the direction of Judith Lyons, Dulciana Vocal Ensemble will celebrate the season with a joyful mix of traditional and contemporary Christmas music. From cherished carols to boy band bangers, the programme spans centuries and styles, drawing on composers from Ireland and across the world.

The choir will also perform an encore of two specially created works premiered at its tenth anniversary concert last month. Acclaimed Irish composers Seán Doherty and Jonathan Nangle, commissioned with support from The Arts Council, wrote these pieces especially for Dulciana’s milestone year. Audiences will get another chance to hear Doherty’s Peperit Virgo and Nangle’s On the Move at First Light.

Since its founding in 2015, Dulciana Vocal Ensemble has championed music for upper voices, supporting musicianship across all ages and identities. The ensemble has collaborated with artists including Dowry Strings and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, premiered new compositions, and gained national recognition with performances on RTÉ television and successes at international festivals and competitions. The choir has been awarded Best Overall Choir and Best Performance of a Contemporary Irish Work at RTÉ Lyric FM’s Choirs for Christmas and has twice taken first place in the equal voice category at the Derry Choral Festival. Ensemble members include composer, arranger, and violinist Ena Brennan, and singer-composer Julie Hough (of HAVVK).

Speaking ahead of the concert, Director of Dulciana Vocal Ensemble Judith Lyons said:“This Christmas programme is full of heart. It brings together the creativity and talent of our own members, and the joy of sharing festive music with our community. We can’t wait to welcome audiences for an evening that celebrates both Christmas and the spirit of Dulciana.”
