About this event

Kildare County Childcare Committee and Creative Places Athy are running a 6- week arts programme in Athy. The arts and outdoors program will be suitable for young children (under 3 years), childminders, parents and guardians. There will be a maximum of 15 places issued to each child + their accompanying adult/s.

Places will be allocated to each child + their accompanying adult/s.

⚠️Participants must be available to commit to all 6 weeks of the programme / Children must be supervised by their childminder / guardian at all times

The child + accompanying adult sessions will be run from 10 am to 11:45 am one day a week for 4 weeks.

There will be two sessions for guardians / childminders only, one at the beginning and another at the end of the project.

The first will be an information session to learn about the program and the participating children's interests.

The last session will be an informal meet up where guardians / childminders and facilitators share feedback on the experiential workshops.

ℹ️ Tuesday 19th March: Guardians /Childminders meet with facilitators at Athy Library at 18:30-20:00 (ADULT-ONLY session)

Creative Places Athy, led by Kildare Arts Service, is an arts and community development programme which aims to create opportunities for people to become more engaged in their town and develop an increased community connection through making socially engaged art.

What is the Arts and Ecology Program about?

This arts programme will focus on the relationship between the arts and ecology and provide Childminders/Guardians with a sound knowledge of the arts and the artistic possibilities that ecology and the outdoor environment can provide children and adults for exploration and wonder.

Who are the facilitators? Part 1 - Jackie Maguire

Jackie is an artist, musician, researcher and arts lecturer at MU and DCU on the Early Childhood Education and Care degrees. She has extensive experience of working with young children under 6 years through the arts and is currently studying a Post Grad. Diploma in Art & Ecology at NCAD.

Who are the facilitators? Part 2 - Trisha MacLaughlin

Trisha, owner of the Sligo Woodland School, brings over 22 years of experience in community development and early childhood care education to her role as an educational outdoor leader. Her expertise is enriched by a Master’s degree in Creative Development in ECEC.
